[EDIT: Hey, it seems that my links try to append my livejournal url to the start of the link url, thus resulting in a 404 error. Anyone know what's up with that?]
Another take on health care reform. “Instead it [Obama’s reforms] will put yet more patches on the walls of an edifice that is fundamentally unsound—and then build that edifice higher.” Fascinating stuff. He’s hopeful but cynical about Obama’s reforms, so he throws out a few suggestions as to what we can do to make the consumer, not the insurer, the focus of the health care market. Via New Advent

Images during the total solar eclipse last week. --Numbers 4 and 32 are my favorites. I also love all the different things people use to see the eclipse. Especially the x-ray film. From The Big Picture

Dancing Prisoners of Cebu -- From one of the random blogs I read. I'm pretty sure I found Hookah Joe while looking for sailing blogs. He sails around the world in a research vessel, and is always posting fascinating pics and occasionally some interesting stories to go with them.

Gene 'has key schizophrenia role' - About one woman a generation gets it in my family. I wonder if research (this and others) will lead to successful treatment, or if our best hope is through genetic screening of embryos. To deal with a problem, learn and grow through the hardship it brings, or not have to deal with it at all? That's an interesting question to me, and not one easily answered.

A pill to erase painful memories? "John Harris, Professor of Bioethics at the University of Manchester, said: "An interesting complexity is the possibility that victims, say of violence, might wish to erase the painful memory and with it their ability to give evidence against assailants.""
Article with headline that pisses me off: Alien life 'may exist among us' This is actually stuff I'm really fascinated by--the idea that living things don't have a single origin back in the early, soupy days of Earth; that there might be non-carbon-based life right here.

Linking because I like this line:"I pretty much use the training I got when I went to a fundamentalist Pentecostal Bible College. I'm still ministering, but in my own community while wearing pantyhose and a dress."
I like the idea that even though we make mistakes (in Betty's case, becoming a fundie in the hopes of being turned straight) we can still gain valuable experiences from them.

Tha part of this that fascinates me the most (aside from the overall awesomeness of it) is guy's sense of identity, which is as a man that looks like a woman. Among trannies, there is such an enormous range of identities. Just when you think you have something down, someone shows up to throw you off course. I spent yesterday yammering on to someone about how it was greatly about brain chemicals. Sometimes, a biological woman has the internal hardwiring of a man. Can we say that about this guy? Is he in denial? Is his hardwiring midway between a man's and a woman's? Should we even care?
I love variety.
