Transgender man elected mayor of small Oregon town.

Tha part of this that fascinates me the most (aside from the overall awesomeness of it) is guy's sense of identity, which is as a man that looks like a woman. Among trannies, there is such an enormous range of identities. Just when you think you have something down, someone shows up to throw you off course. I spent yesterday yammering on to someone about how it was greatly about brain chemicals. Sometimes, a biological woman has the internal hardwiring of a man. Can we say that about this guy? Is he in denial? Is his hardwiring midway between a man's and a woman's? Should we even care?
I love variety.

I found this very interesting! At first, I was thrown by the pronouns...the transgender people I know (one quite intimately, grin) all prefer their chosen gender's pronoun. This guy does not. He has, however, found his peace with who he is--and made it work for him. You are so right on the range of identities...being transgender is just not cut and dried, as so many might think.

I hope he does a great job! Thanks for sharing this.

That is SO awesome. I've sent the link on to some TG friends who might not have seen it - hope it brightens their day!

As for your questions, my answer fall very firmly into "We shouldn't even care." The only time I'd find it personally important is if I'm actually thinking of dating someone, and then my preferences are quite discriminatory - but they're just as hardwired as any other gender preference. As for friends, political office, etc...we need to get over the idea that pigeonholing people is important, and see them as people.
