So what are the best used bookstores in Seattle?

Twice Sold Tales, aside from having great eclectic finds more than most places, are renowned for having cats in the stores, making any old lazy afternoon bookshopping greatly enhanced by the presence of fat tabbies lolling about in the nooks and crannies. The Capitol Hill branch was the setting of many a wild hunt before I moved to a different neighborhood.

Horizon Books was a delightful albeit cramped store in an old craftsman house on 15th Ave E on Cap Hill, a block north of Safeway. The cart holding $1 or less deals on the front stoop called out to me every time I walked past, and once up there, how can one not come in and chat with the owner? Sadly, That location closed, but the store apparently moved to Pike & 10th, according to this useful list (http://recollectionbooks.com/seattle.html).

That list reminded me about Seattle Mystery Bookstore - not sure how much of a used selection they have, I've never gone in despite it being on the same block where I work in Pioneer Square (and close to your workplace, too, if I'm not mistaken.) I can tell you their window seems to hold many an intriguing thriller.

I'm going to Twice Sold Tales today, because, I'm told, it's having a going-out-of-business sale. :-(

And yeah, Seattle Mystery Bookshop is right around the corner from me, and they do have used stuff there. (I found myself a nice old gothic, one of my vices.)
