George Carlin, RIP

I first encountered George Carlin in high school during Accelerated Non-Western Civilization. My teacher, Mr. Bressan, resembled Carlin in both looks and manner. This was the class where the first thing he did was make us read Thoreau's Civil Disobedience. That was the class that made me rethink the absolute stance of my religion and made me start thinking for myself.
I don't remember which George Carlin video he made us watch--I think it was Seven Words you Can't Say On Television--but it helped make me who I am today.

Hey, I had Mr. Bressan too! I remember all of that... He was such an awesome teacher. It was weird when all that stuff about him came out, I never would have thought it...

Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, and Bill Hicks have shuffled off this mortal coil. And now George Carlin joins them.

We need someone to pick up their mantle, someone who uses stand-up comedy to force humanity to deal with its shit. Chris Rock can't fight the battle alone.
