Finished!

Finished my required short story for this week. It's definitely a plotless literary one. There's a story, to be sure, but I can tell I've written something I don't possess all the tools to evaluate.
Maybe I'll write full on plotted stories later with the characters from my literary ramblings. The Tangoing Psychiatrist Versus the Aliens!

Anyway...Nano stats:

Finished:
Winecask Bellies and owl Wings- 1600 words
Dead Angel Diana: 400 words
It Takes One to Flamenco: 2200 words.

Total words written:
8217 words on 13 different stories.
Average: 747 words a day.
(I'm aiming for Half-Nano: 833 words a day)

Kitten is very excited about my beanbag chair, which is approximately the same color and texture as he, the shiny black thing. I think there's something about the shadows that constantly shift as he steps on it. He keeps attacking things in the folds.

In other news, I finished two short stories today. That said, I'm still super behind in Nano, and the stories were short (1800 and 400 words respectively). But if I write a short story a week, and I can pretend I'm in Clarion, I'll be happy. (If I really wanted to pretend I was in Clarion, I suppose I'd rejoin OWW and critique seventeen stories a week on there. However, if I was really in Clarion, I also wouldn't have a day job, and would be getting drunk more often.

I hit 50,000 words in Nanowrimo today. (Still have 30,000 or to go to novel's end). This means I get to do my favorite Nano thing -- encoding my novel to be uploaded and verified. I don't have to do this; I trust the Nano website. But it's fun! Ever since I accidentally replaced all the "o"s in The Starfever with the character's name, "Oxana," I've been using that every year. I just like having my manuscript look like this:

Mayboxana shoxana'd boxanaoxanan in Vitali's way. But why had hoxana boxanaoxanan sparoxanad? Had hoxana simply failoxanad toxana noxanaticoxana in timoxana?

(All o's and e's replaced with "oxana".)

I'm at 1596 words at this moment. I'm posting as I go in [livejournal.com profile] green_night_nan (Hey, it didn't tell me my name was too long when I made it. Shut up.)
Go friend if you want to read some experimental, occasionally stream-of-consciousness high fantasy about necromancers and zombies.

The first bit, which is only sort of incoherent.

Books which I am currently reading en masse:
(Feel free to add suggestions)

Heaven and Hell --Emmanuel Swedenborg
The Marriage of Heaven and Hell --William Blake
(And now I realize I should get The Great Divorce , by CS Lewis)

The Western Lands -- William Burroughs (I had to go buy this one, because the library copy smells like a moldy tent)
Naked Lunch --William Burroughs

Dhalgren --Samuel Delany

Diary of a Genius --Salvador Dalí
50 Secrets of Master Craftsmanship --Salvador Dalí
Selected Poems of Lorca and Jimenez
Poems of Saint John of the Cross

Alchemical texts from here.

Some book on the Mongols

I also got The Book of Thoth and a book of Thelemic rituals, and though I didn't get them specifically for Nano-inspiration, I'm sure they'll be helpful.

And I'm still reading Space Magic , David Levine's short story collection. I read one story every morning, since madness and mysticism isn't a good thing to pummel myself with right before a long stressful day at work.
