I've been on this stuff for many months now, and I think it's still doing it's job. Sometimes it's been hard to tell, but I think that's my own fault. My sleep schedule is extremely sensitive, and if it's thrown off by more than a couple hours, then my head goes out of wack. I also have to be very careful with my caffeine intake. For a while there, I thought the medicine was losing its effectiveness, but I feel good right now. Worldcon and couple other things threw me off hard, and I'm only just now recovering.

I get the impression, talking to others, that if you get your dose right you can still have your ups and downs (as you're having) but that you can recover faster.

I didn't know caffeine might cause a perceived loss of effectiveness with your medication. I'll have to share that with someone I know who's taking the same and is thinking the same thing.

It's a matter of energy intake. (at least, this is my theory, for my individual body) My metabolism is pretty efficient, and once it gets on a schedule it likes, it sticks with it, and has trouble keeping up if things change. So I try to keep my caffeine consumption to one can of soda every other day, and even then, I try to drink it with food, and not at the exact same time, like at lunch. Otherwise, my body will be expecting the energy boost at the regular time and not bother to do the work on its own. (This is why it's particularly bad for me to have caffeine first thing in the morning on a regular basis.)
Prozac raises energy, and adds an extra variable to what my metabolism has to adjust to. So if nothing unexpected happens, it's like my body can be on cruise control, and everything is well. The metabolism processes the Prozac just fine. If I go and say, take an all night road trip to Reno, followed by five days of partying and drinking soda to keep going, things are going to take a while to readjust.
Anyway, that's my theory.
