Jan. 16th, 2011 05:25 pmBoy, packing takes a lot out of me. Friday, I ended up staying late at work, which gave me little time to get to the train station to head north to Bellingham for another round of packing. I'd forgotten my lunch bag, and so I ended up having Sun Chips for dinner. (I need to get to know the area so I can find out where the late fast food is in the otherwise dead zone of Pioneer Square.) Due to mudslides, Amtrak had to pack us all onto charter buses rather than the usual, relaxing train. As a result of this and a driver who seemed to have a strange sense of direction, I got in ten minutes after the last local bus. I probably could have called a friend, but it was a gorgeous night, with a strong warm wind, so I walked to downtown, where I met up with
plunderpuss. We stayed up till 2am. (And I was finally able to eat something other than Sun Chips.) Though it threw off my sleep schedule, I'm glad I did it, since I probably won't ever have another late night stormwalk with San again.
He and
awriter also helped me pack boxes the next day, making my life a million times easier. I spent the morning running errands and forgetting where Office Depot was. I'd recently gotten some money, and was pondering what kind of present I should give myself (because I deserve it, dammit) when I walked by the Barnes and Noble. Inside, I discovered that their sf section is 80% urban fantasy. There were quite a few small press books, which was nice to see, but a lot of them were small press urban fantasy. :-) They didn't have any of the books I had on my to-buy list. I ended up buying Procession of the Dead, by Darren Shan.
I stupidly didn't bring my allergy medicine, and my inhaler died, so my lungs and throat currently hate me. But I've got all day tomorrow to rest, thanks to an unexpected day off. (My work isn't closed, but since our primary client, the city government will be, I get a break.)
Now I'm home. The Greyhound bus was actually running early. I think that because of this incredible phenomenon taking up all available miracle energy, the Seahawks lost.
