In writing The Montana Book, I realize the scenes between family members, which should be little pressure cookers with films of joy and anger condensing on the outside, are lacking. I haven't actually read much of that sort of thing, so I'm looking for recommendations. I'd like stuff that's contemporary, and very focused on the family dynamics. If said family is in an isolated setting, all the better.

Have you read The Poisonwood Bible (http://books.google.com/books?id=n2jCdZ00sRIC&dq=the+Poisonwood+Bible&printsec=frontcover&source=bn&hl=en&ei=DyiaS_fUH5WqnAPQ2Z2RDg&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CCMQ6AEwBA) by Barbara Kingsolver? Kingsolver writes about that kind of stuff in general, and is one of my favorite authors, but The Poisonwood Bible, is pretty close to what your describe, althoguh it's been a while since I read it, so I don't remember if the family interactions are what you are looking for or not.
