Steampunk-ish?
Oct. 20th, 2009 07:38 pmI'm going to a steampunk themed wedding soon, and I've been flailing around for an outfit. I have to keep things cheap. Today I found a battered pith helmet for 5 bucks at the antique store.
Behind the cut are some shots I took on my crappy laptop camera. The gauzy stuff partially hides the fact that the fabric coating is wearing off in back. Yeah, red's not too steampunky, but it's all I've got.

B. Given my very slipshot knowledge of actual historical fact, I do know they loved things like those gauzy parts.
And hey, $5 pith helmet!

Date: 2009-10-21 03:20 am (UTC)I'm kind of curious as to when my helmet was made. I guess traditionally they were cork or pith wood, but mine's some kind of molded paperboard. At least there's not a speck of plastic to be found. (except maybe on the ends of the shoelaces that cinch the headband thingy.)
I wouldn't be as bothered by the lack of brown on my head, but the rest of my outfit is black and grey.
That said, I think I'm pretty cute. :-)

Date: 2009-10-21 06:23 am (UTC)I'll also be pinch hitting on a YA Steampunk panel because my sis-in-law is the programming director. I get to BS with some big name author...what was her name...oh yeah Caitlin Kittredge!
