I got my galileoscope in the mail today. Assembling it myself was satisfying, and holding the crystal clear lenses was an unexpected thrill.

Now I just need a tripod and a dark, clear night. I spent a couple minutes balancing the danged thing on my shoulder, trying to project an out of focus image of the sun onto a piece of paper to show Chelsea that it could be done.

I don't suppose anyone has a tripod they want to get rid of?

Hit the thrift stores. There are always a ton of used tripods. The trick is finding one that can hold what you want it to in working condiiton.

That's the plan. I won't be able to until this weekend though, and I'm all anxious to see Saturn's thin rings before it's impossible to see at the end of the month.

Ohboy, I'm jealous. I just happened upon your post while obsessively googling for galileoscope in hopes that somehow that will make mine arrive sooner. :)
I'm looking forward to looking at Jupiter with mine first - I tried last night with some cheapo 9x binoculars, leaning against a stop sign to stabilize things, but it was dancing all over the place. :)
