I wonder if the cats are like certain fundamentalist Christians, who think that non-christians haven't converted simply because they've never heard of Jesus and the Bible*. The cats sit longingly at the door, glancing at us imploringly--do they think, "if only they understood that we want OUT when we sit here. We don't want not-out, as they seem to think. If only we could let them know!"



*Which is, "BIB LA" in Haiti. I saw a picture recently and thought, "ha ha, in Haiti they can't afford kerning." Then I thought better, looked it up and felt silly.

Kreyól is such a fascinating, and occasionally amusing language. We print a newsletter for a local church that sponsors a Haitian orphanage, and they regularly make trips there personally. I kept a copy of their guidebook, which has a Kreyól phrasebook in it. The word for "God" is "Bondye" (BOE-dyae). Being partly based in French, this can translate literally as, "Good God."
Listed shortly after (this being a Christian missionary handbook) is "God is Good"--"Bondye a bon." Good God is Good! So, it's probably culturally insensitive of me, but I like that Haiti has a god that speaks LOLcat.
