This is exactly where I'm at right now.
Of course, where she's struggling to break into Great Writer Land, I'm struggling to reach, "Publishable Writer Land". I'm taking a clue from kaerfel and doing prewriting, to get a feel for my characters. This means I'm letting myself write about them doing whatever they feel like, in scenes that have no connection to the story I'm writing about. Scenes I can have fun with and not feel any pressure over. I'm not going to worry about subtly inserting world-building or description, just figuring out how the characters interact with the world. And I'm definitely not going to worry about finishing those scenes.

Figuring out how characters interact with the world is the best way to subtly insert world-building and description, IMHO. ;)
