Sep. 6th, 2007 03:09 pmMy dilemma -
I've been plotting Book 2 (tentatively title, The Changelings), but I'm not getting excited about it. I've got a bunch of ideas I like, and I like what I've written so far, but the passion is missing. This usually means something is wrong.
Keffy asked me what I'm doing for Nano this year. I admit, I was hoping to do Book 3 in the Hellborn series. I figured that this month, I'd have enough of Book 2 plotted and written that I could make a rough draft of 3 in November. I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen. Maybe if Nano were in December, rather than November. But it's not.
I want to do something in The Big World, so I don't have to do a lot of worldbuilding. I don't want to rewrite the six-book Vittore/Oxana/Juri, etc. cycle, and I can't write anything that takes place afterwards, since I'm not sure what the world will be like after the events I still haven't written. Oh, maybe I can write the War of Trials! (the so far untouched Book 5) That would rock, and I think I've got enough info to do it.
Anyway... I was going to write Green Night by the River (aka Morya's backstory) because I thought about it and got excited. Too excited. I want to write it now. And I guess I can.
Which leaves me at (In The Big World)
Book 1 - The Knife's Edge - finished, but needs to be brought up to my current writing standards.
Book 2 - Empire's Daughters - About 1/3 done. Waiting for my skills to catch up to what it deserves
Book 3 - Owl of Flame and Shadow - Finished, needs an upgrade.
Book 4 - Raising Monsters - Probably about half done. Still flailing around figuring what the hell I'm doing with it. This is the book that should be my favorite, so I'm being very mean to it.
Book 5 - War of Trials - Still in planning phase
Book 6 - The Necromancer Princess - About 20,000 words of a fragmented draft that will need a complete overhaul once I write Book 5.
End story arc. Jump ahead 250 years
Book 7 (stand alone) - The Viper and the Eagle - About 5,000 words done. Will rock my pants.
Book 8 (stand alone) - The Sunwalker - still tossing around ideas.
Book 9, 10, 11 - The Schism Wars trilogy. Still tossing around ideas, waiting until the other books are done so I know what the political status of the world is. Deciding if I even want to write them
Book 12 (stand alone) - To Wiltshuvin or Death - 5,000 word fragment. Will also rock my pants
possible novella (stand alone) - The Sea People - Wrote a long time ago. Started it all. Need to make pseudo-utopian society more believable.
Book 13 - The Sea Sorceress - A few fragments. Need to figure out what I'm doing with it, if it will be a standalone, or tie into later books, or if I even need it. There's a lot of Navia's story that ties into Morya's, and ultimately their stories merge in the coming trilogy, but at first, they're doing their own things, but interacting at important intervals, and I need to figure out which book to put those interactions in.
Book 14 - The Plague of Altonisi, Book 1 -- I guess it's finished, but I wrote it so long ago, it's kinda crap, even if at heart it's my favorite.
Book 15 - TPoA, Book 2 - Still a bunch of fragments
Book 16 - TPoA Book 3 (The God Wars) - Still fragments and ideas.
Prequels -
The Starfever - 25,000 words, finished but not really sellable.
Green Night By the River trilogy
Book 1 outlined, Books 2 and 3 still floating about.
And there's so many other things I could do. I want to form my own fanfiction club like Marion Zimmer Bradley did with Darkover, since there's so many possible stories, but I suck at short stories, which most of them probably should be.
