Last night I was watching tv with my dad. It was that new show with Bruce Campbell. Burn.... something. Anyway, it was pretty good. In the opening scene, the guy's giving the girl a gun for her birthday.

Now, I realize I need to give Bree, my heroine, more personality. I've never been able to get a handle on her. Last night I realized, "she needs to be a gun enthusiast!" Bree as she is right now is probably very pro-gun control, but if I change that, it might make her less preachy, and more someone the hero might be attracted to after the danger is past.

I also realize, since I just went and looked at a gun enthusiast webzine, that I now have a zillion options to develop her unique quirks. I think she might be specifically interested in cowboy guns. And actually, if I do that, she can still be anti- automatic/semi-automatic guns.

Edit - but darn it, if I do that, she'll end up more like a character in another story I've got. >:( #@$@#!! Internally, Bree and Marie are very different, so maybe no one will notice, even if I do want them both to be women in positions of political power.

Perhaps you could make her both pro-gun control, and gun enthusiast? The two are not mutually exclusive. Would this help keep her from being too much like the other character?

Many gun enthusiasts I know are very concerned about how guns are handled. I. E. Guns are not toys, a gun is always to be handled as if it is loaded, etc.
