Anyone know about guns?
Aug. 11th, 2007 11:16 amHey, the katydid just dropped onto my bed. I've been watching it on my ceiling, and had wondered where it went. Eee... it has red eyes! And antennae longer than it's body. There, I put it outside. Last time a katydid came in my room, it was to die in a breeched attempt at shedding it's skin.
Speaking of death...
I'm researching the little details I need to fill in my book. I need the name of a gun a hitman would use. Maybe he has several guns, one for hits and one for wearing everyday. I don't even need a lot of details, just a name for him to call the damn thing(s), because I don't think he'd think "the gun." But I don't want to pick a random handgun, since I know crap about them.
I've poked around the morass that is the Nano forums, to no avail.

Date: 2007-08-11 07:23 pm (UTC)The wikipedia entry covers most of my concerns with the M9. If you're interested in a gun that's used by the US military, you might also look at the P226 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIG_P226), which has a more comfy grip than the Glock while still being solid and reliable.

Date: 2007-08-11 07:53 pm (UTC)I absolutely believe this might be true. There's nothing in looking at or handling the M9 that says it should be an unreliable gun when compared to the P226 or the Glock 9mm (granting that my knowledge of firearms design is almost nil).
If I were a hitman...
Date: 2007-08-11 07:09 pm (UTC)For actual hits, unless there was a reason to get close-in or there are specific needs for the hit (eg, I know he'll be in an armored car) in which case I'd have to opt for some sort of "disposable" (meaning, I don't mind dropping it in a storm sewer) or specific weapon, a rifle chambered for .30.06 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.30-06_Springfield) is a good choice. As you can see from the wiki entry, there are a variety of options there; you'd want to do a little research for what your precise hitman would like.
