Ouch

So last weekend, my dad gave me the little old lady wheely cart thing that my mom never uses. When I got home, I saw a Safeway ad for a buy two twelve packs of soda, get two free (and two boxes of crackers!) I thought, "score! Just in time for the wheely cart!" The wheely cart holds, by the way, exactly the volume of four twelve packs of soda. I dragged the cart up the hill with little trouble, just the occasional bump where the sidewalk was uneven. I loaded up at the Safeway, shoved in a six pack of paper towels on top of it, and headed home.
Halfway there, pushing the cart before me, I hit an uneven patch of sidewalk. It was one of those moments where you go, "I can fix this...I can fix this...oh shit, I'm going down." And indeed, down I went, right on top of the cart.
I sat in the middle of the sidewalk for a minute while my head swam and a nice lady fussed over me. I scraped the hell out of my left elbow, and it feels like someone jabbed a broomstick in the back of my calf and inside of my right thigh, but otherwise, I'm fine. My poor, brand new little old lady cart, though, had the frame bent out of shape, so one of the smaller front wheels won't touch the ground. Hopefully I can beat it back into place.

But hey, the important thing is, I now have enough Coke Zero and Wheat Thins to last me two months!

Isn't falling weird? It seems like there's no time at all between walking along just fine, and then you're down on the ground and bits of you hurt.

And then getting back up again seems to take so long.

Good luck on getting the cart back in shape, since you seem sanguine about repairing yourself :)

Except for that bit that Criada mentioned, where it seems to take *forever*, but you're in the spot where there's nothing you can do about it.

I remember that really well from my big bike crash in college -- that weird in-between time when I knew I was going to hit HARD but and it was totally inevitable.

I hope you feel better soon, Liz! Road rash is such a pain.
