So my computer may or may not be dead. Whenever I start it, it has a kernel panic and goes no further. For about a year now, this happens if I try to start it on a non-flat surface. Now, nothing works.
The guy at TD Curran said it was either the RAM or the logicboard, and if it was the latter, then I'm screwed. Rather than pay a hundred bucks to find out, I took out the RAM myself, and discovered it looks pretty corroded. I tried cleaning it (with a pencil eraser, after the advice of the Internet) to no avail.

So I figure I have three options.
One, buy new RAM.
Probably the cheapest option. I could, after all, use the RAM in a new computer.
Two, pay $99 plus parts to my local computer store. I've had nothing but good experiences with those guys, and I'd get a definitive answer, but if it's the RAM, then I can fix it myself, and if it's not...
Three, give up and hope I can buy a new computer.
From here, there are suboptions, like buying a new power cord for my NEC, so I can at least write a novel not by hand. Another option is getting a Netbook. Not ideal, but I can't afford much more (and I'm not even sure when I can afford that.)

But hey, at least I've got my iPod, whose autocorrect insists the Internet is capitalized.

You can put what you photographed videos, photos to your ipod by the ipod video converter (http://www.clonedvd.net/iPod-video-converter/)

My experience with RAM is that if it doesn't work out, for whatever reason, you can take it back to the store you bought it from. I think it's worth checking with whoever you'd buy it from to see if you can do that, since $99 is a huge service fee to have someone pop some RAM in and see if that fixes it.

Most stores have really strict return policies anymore, because people buy electronics, use them for an hour and return them thus resulting in the store having to foot the costs for mailing it back to get refurbished and/or repackaged.

Usually there's a 15% restocking fee now.

If Audrey isn't using it, I think the Novelinator is still alive, if... ancient and slow. It's even got Scrivener on it.

Yikes. Then again, if it's still cheaper than having someone do it for her... $99 plus parts is more than a third of the way toward a good netbook.

Yeah, that one's pretty much a losing battle, yo.
