Dec. 22nd, 2007 05:55 pmI'm going to Southern California tonight to visit my family for Christmas. I haven't seen most of them in at least three years, during which time three babies have been born. They're great people, and I'm proud to be part of their family, but with the exception of my parents, my grandma, and my aunt the nun, I don't know them, and feel like my circle of friends is more my family than they.
If I hang out with someone for a decent length of time, I become attached. I never forget those people, even though they inevitably drift out of my orbit and we grow off independently of the little collective entities that were forged both in reality and in my own awareness.
