No matter how much money I'm afraid I'm spending, I always have enough. I dropped nearly five hundred bucks on plane tickets for Christmas (and sixty bucks on cloth of varying degrees of usefulness. I've no idea what I'm going to do with the blue holographic stuff, but it was 75% off! And it's so shiny...) But hey, I always seem to have the exact same amount of money in my account. Sometimes, the number even creeps upwards a little.

Oh! I know. I'll make reservations for Potlatch. Anyone want to share a room with me? Anyone know the best way for me to describe to my friends what Potlatch is? (The con, not the Native American Event! :-)

...it's an American Indian tradition where you basically show off your posessions and various assets. It's like a party of sorts, right?

If my memory serves one does not just show off your stuff, you actually give it away

Potlatch description?
When I'm feeling ornery, I describe it as 150 folks who know each other and choose to alienate you from their goings-on.

But usually, I feel more honest. It's a gathering of science fiction writers, editors, publishers and readers whose purpose is to raise funds for the Clarion West writers workshops. Good people, good fun. (Books on typography have graced the dealers room.)

There is one track of programming, so, unlike other NW sf cons, you don't have to choose what to go to; just whether you will go. The hospitality suite (consuite) is an excellent hangout for when the programming doesn't suit you, or for in between programming items.

I've been to all of the Seattle Potlatches (it moves around, so it's been in San Francisco and Portland), and I am astonished and amazed at some of the talented people I've seen at them.
