I already knew a lot about Hell and various demonologies before I wrote The Blood Rose Devouring, but I still did a lot of research first. In the end, I didn't use some of the more traditional takes, and created my own Hell with flourescent lighting.

In book 2, I'll be messing with Faery realms. I've got a vague idea of the mythos, but mainly through other authors. I've read fairy tales, but how close do those come to "traditional" folklore. I'm going to head up to the library tomorrow to research, but can anyone recommend some books? When I type in "fairy" into the catalog, I get mostly fairy tales. "Sidhe" "fey" and "faery" don't get results.

Check out Holly Black's site. She has an exhaustive list of faery resources.

hmmmm...... i haven't had time to go through i completely, but i have a book (published by barnes and hoble, I think) called "myths and legends of the british isles." I think there may be at least some traditional folklore in there. You'd probably have to check the table of contents, though. My other source for mythology is usually the mythology section of half-price books. Most of the ones I've been to tend to have a decent selection. Oh, also, there's the Enchanted World books by Time-Life, but those are hard to find - the library might have them, though.

Oh yeah, the Enchanted World books. I've got the whole set, and only read like one of them.

Hi, Vidya! I didn't realize you were around here. :-)

yep, i am - haven't been as active on limyaael's rants recently (mainly because I've been running out of time and am stuck back in 2005) but I'm here. Also started [livejournal.com profile] enantia as my personal writing community a bit more recently in an attempt to get back into writing more. It's getting a little use (if infrequently). Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot to contribute to Wyvernsmiths lately - but what little I do get done is on there.

i've been on livejournal for the past four years - just noticed yours recently in one of the rants, though. ^_^

How've things been for you?

Doing well. I haven't been as active on Wyvernsmiths because I just haven't been in a critiquing mood. It all gets used up in my weekly writing group. And I'm setting aside my "Big World" and trying other things for a while.
With any luck, I'll be published within a month or so. (well, e-published, but I don't want to knock that) The erotica I wrote last Nanowrimo is under consideration at Loose-Id. I'm going to start the sequel in a week.

You?
