Computer help, maybe?

So I'm trying to make Inkscape, an open source vector drawing program, work. It needs Ghostscript in order to work with .eps files. So I install Ghostscript, I even go into the nuts and bolts area and add the PATH stuff it tells me to, and it still doesn't work. I have no idea if anyone can help me here. If not, then I just want to bitch. Clearly, the Universe does not want me to be a graphic designer. Thanks.
