So I'm sitting at work, waiting for files to process, angsting about writing. I'm about halfway thorugh the stretch of new writing, and taking a break so I can figure out the structural problems of the whole book. I loved the last version because it was short and tight. This one... I'm not sure what I'm doing.

I copied my outline into a new file and wrote "PRIMARY STORY GOAL" (PSG) at the top. After identifying that, I wrote down five big story questions, which were answered at varying stages of the story. Then I went through every scene and marked down choices, actions, reactions, discoveries and so on. Later I'll break each scene down by high/low action/tension external/internal. (Assuming I still don't know what I'm doing. I might figure it out before then.) And, I want to analyze character interactions in each scene.

The big stretch I'm writing now doesn't relate enough to the PSG. There's a lot of cool stuff in there, but it just kinda wanders. With any luck, I can keep most of it and still meet my goal by tossing the primary villain in to cause chaos.

Ugh... too hot... brain melting...
