Listening to Stuff
Feb. 9th, 2010 06:45 pmI'm trying to listen to more audiobooks and podcasts on my iPod. I got it into my head that I should try to fall asleep to something nice, rhythmic and spoken. (It typically takes me 20-60 minutes to fall asleep. Speeding that up would be nice.) So I pulled up a LibriVox recording of Edgar Allen Poe's poems. The reader drove me crazy. I switched over to The Bible--Genesis. Same thing, though a little better. I know LibriVox is all free and done by volunteers, so I feel a little guilty criticising them. You get what you pay for, blah blah blah. Their voices would have been fine reading a piece of fiction, they just lacked the gravitas I was hoping for.
I shall keep trying.
In the land of good things I've listened to, check out The Blessed Days, by Mike Allen, over at Pseudopod. That is one disturbing story.
I'm helping assemble presentation folders at work. Sitting alone with a tape/glue gun, giving myself carpal tunnel and praying I don't glue the wrong side of the tabs. It's a great opportunity to listen to audiobooks.
